So I was re-watching Season 1 of the Venture Bros. for like the 500th time and got caught up, as I often do, in a conversation between the late 24 (yes folks, he's dead) and 21. The conversation centered around the Smurfs and how they reproduce - with suggestions of egg laying thrown around and standard mammal nocturnal activities thrown back.  At first, I totally agreed with 21.  Yes, I know he's a cartoon character and yes, I know how sad it is that I allow such a statement to be written for all time - work with me here.

Anyway, at first, the argument that they're clearly mammals is a strong one, despite 24 pointing out that in species with one female, egg laying is the more likely form of reproduction.  However, a subtle memory kept flashing through my mind. Something was wrong with both arguments. Something didn't feel quite right. I had vague impressions of Gargamel (if you don't know who that is, stop reading and do society a favor by self terminating) and Azrael (again, self termination for the betterment of mankind). Something about tricking the Smurfs to come to him. Then it dawned on me - Gargamel created Smurfette. With that in mind I had to wonder...where did the first 99 Smurfs (all male by the way) come from? Did they just pop out of the ground...like Daisies?

Anyway, both my revelation and the conversation it was based on have little importance, when you consider that the cartoon of the 80's both are about was likely not true to the Belgian comic strip that birthed it.  I'm of the mind that they reproduce asexually - sure it lacks the fun of a good romp in the mushroom patch but it avoids the sticky questions of who is Baby Smurf's dad or why Smurfette never contracted some rare STD. I mean, 99 guys and 1 girl for how many years?  Yeah, I've a feeling everyone "knew" Smurfette after awhile. Even Papa Smurf.

Can you tell I'll do anything to avoid my deadlines? lol.

Aha! A challenge. Second move, find something else to do (usually involving television or gaming) and justify it as "Research" for the work. Your Move.

Oo, nice one!
My move.

I re-arrange the trash in my room so I move to and from the toilet more freely.
Your move.

Smurfs is on DvD? WTF?!?:wow: ...burn me a copy of ALL;)

The answer is simple my friend. They do NOT reproduce. You know all of those penis shaped forms in the show, well... They pop out of those. ...but they also do infact fuck Smurfette raw as well.:)
